About Us

About Us

Pathway to Serenity is a Residential Substance Abuse Facility for men who are ready to rebuild their lives from substance abuse—one day, one decision, and one new habit at a time. Founded by Rodney and Barbara Owens, Pathway to Serenity was born from lived experience, not theory. Rodney began his own recovery journey in 1997 and has spent decades working in residential substance abuse treatment, walking alongside men as they fight their way back from addiction. Over the years he realized his passion and his calling were the same: to help men gain a stronger foundation and become the men they were created to be.

In 2005, Rodney received a vision for a Residential Substance Abuse Facility where structure, accountability, and genuine care could exist under one roof. He approached his wife with open arms and that vision became reality in 2009. Pathway to Serenity Inc. is a state-licensed facility that blends proven recovery practices with real-world life skills training. Here, men live in a structured environment that emphasizes responsibility, spiritual and personal growth, employment readiness, and healthy routines, all designed to support long-term sobriety and community reintegration.

Rodney Owens knows from personal experience that with the right tools—clear boundaries, daily structure, education, and support—men can be reunited with a healthy, manageable life. His ultimate goal is simple and bold: to touch as many lives as possible so that being productive, present members of their families and communities is not just a hope, but a reality. In 2024, Pathway to Serenity received a gift from God to have the opportunity to extend the property line for the home. The Owens’ will build upon the foundation and plan to provide more rooms and living spaces for the men who reside there.

Pathway to Serenity is a state-licensed facility, recognized by:

  • Texas Health and Human Services
  • Texas Workforce Commission (formerly D.A.R.S., Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services)
  • The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (formerly M.H.M.R.A.)

“I received a vision in 2005 and it came to reality in 2009. I am excited about the challenge that is ahead of me—to be a positive role model and to demonstrate through my actions that others may be able to find their own Pathway to Serenity.”

Founders

Rodney Owens

Rodney Owens is the founder and Executive Director of Pathway to Serenity, a state-licensed residential facility for men in recovery from substance abuse. Beginning his own pathway in 1997, Rodney has spent more than two decades working in residential treatment, where he discovered that his professional skills and personal calling were one and the same: helping addicted men build a solid foundation for a new life. Drawing on both education and hard-earned experience, Rodney designed Pathway to Serenity as a structured, supportive environment where men can develop life skills, strengthen their spiritual and personal grounding, and learn to navigate work, family, and community without substances. Throughout the years, he has received countless calls, letters and emails from Pathway to Serenity alumni, describing their new life free from substance abuse since living at the residential treatment home. His vision, received in 2005 and realized in 2009, is to be a living example that recovery is possible—and to touch as many lives as he can so that becoming productive, present members of society becomes a reality, not a dream.

Barbara Owens

Barbara Owens is the co-founder of Pathway to Serenity and Rodney’s partner in life and ministry. With a heart for service and a steady commitment to second chances, Barbara has been instrumental in shaping the home’s culture of respect, accountability, and compassion. Working alongside Rodney, she helps ensure that Pathway to Serenity offers more than a roof over a man’s head; it offers stability, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. Barbara’s behind-the-scenes leadership, administrative support, and day-to-day care for residents and staff alike have been essential to turning a shared vision into a sustainable, faith-grounded program that changes lives.
